OICP goes Open Source

Berlin, (May 15, 2019) – Hubject, the global leader in electric vehicle charging interoperability, today announced it is making it easier to connect to their widely adopted eRoaming platform by releasing their protocol OICP, Open InterCharge Protocol, as an open source protocol. The OICP protocol, created in 2012, now connects more than 300 companies in 26 countries with one API connection saving time and money as well as increasing reliability and security. Combined with the opening of the OICP eRoaming protocol, Hubject will also allow connection to the platform by other eRoaming protocols. These changes support the Hubject mission to make EV charging easy and seamless for drivers.“With this announcement, we invite everyone in the market to jointly develop the OICP protocol,” says Nils Dullum, CSO of Hubject GmbH “We believe the industry will move forward quicker and interoperability will be commonplace everywhere when we can collaborate openly.”Founded to create an easy-to-use and reliable Interoperability solution, the Hubject platform today provides easy access to over 100,000 charge ports from hundreds of networks. Using OICP has always been easy and now as an open-sourced protocol it gives charging businesses everywhere an even easier option to connect and receive data with one API and ultimately provide reliable eRoaming to drivers.“We are making this change to be able to connect market participants with an open source OICP or other open-source protocol in any new or established market” said US Hubject Inc. CEO, Paul Glenney. “This adjustment is also consistent with the philosophy of the Hubject platform’s open EV charging marketplace where all businesses are on a level playing field and able to easily connect to all suppliers big and small.”The protocol is available free of charge on the Hubject website and will soon be available on additional open source code distribution systems.
